AGM were successful in securing Full planning permission for the erection of an outdoor riding arena, measuring 35m x 20m, a hard floor trot up area, and the extension of the existing car parking area.
Seadown Veterinary Group was established in 1923 and is manned 24-hours a day by the equine and farm animal vets. It provides a high-quality ambulatory service across the New Forest and beyond: also offering emergency cover for both small and large patients. The Equine Clinic at Seadown Hospital has a very broad client base consisting of competition horses, family ponies, and even the New Forest Donkeys!
The improvements in the facilities available at Seadown have enabled the vets to more adequately assess animals presenting with the more subtle lameness and skeletal imbalances. Furthermore, the extension to the car parking area has improved access for ambulances, horse lorries, and trailers – allowing them to deliver patients directly to the arena.
AGM put together a well-considered and detailed planning case which resulted in the Local Planning Authority commenting that the development would meet a reasonable need for improved equine care facilities and, whilst the development would result in a change to the character of the site, such change would be justified in view of the site’s location within the built-up area, and the changing context to the south. The development could, therefore, be provided without adversely affecting the surrounding environment.
Architectural assistance was provided by Furse Landscape Architects.
