This ambitious project involved converting a derelict building into a modern gym, and a new mixed-use building on the vacant plot adjacent to it. The new build development will include residential accommodation above the retail unit over two floors.
The design seeks to create three distinct façades subdividing the overall mass to reflect the adjacent street scene. The characteristic stepping parapets are re-inserted along Walcot Street’s west elevation through the new built elements which abut the warehouse to the north. The resulting composition with stepped facade in height and materiality responds to the scale of development and eclectic character of Walcot Street.
AGM helped manage this project to gain full planning permission. This involved playing a key role in advising on architectural decisions, managing archaeological surveys and representing the project (and client) at Planning Committee.
Recently, AGM successfully applied to have the conditions relating to Construction Management and Archaeology discharged.
